Alex is a senior investment professional with a multifaceted legal background experienced in alternatives asset management. Alex has completed many large and complex public and private markets transactions, and was integral in starting and building global, regulated, and publicly- listed investment businesses in hedge, private equity, and private credit. Alex is passionate about investing with impact and with the environment and its protection.
In 2018, Alex co-founded EcoInvestors Capital, a global fund focused on providing flexible, private capital for environmental and financial return to help achieve the UN’s environmental Sustainable Development Goals.
From 2015 to 2017, Alex co-led the development of a new private equity style asset management business as a Founder of Acasta Enterprises Inc. (TSX: AEF), including a $400M capital raise and IPO, structuring the new company, the subsequent acquisition of several businesses with over $1.2B in value, add-on transactions, financing arrangements, and legal and regulatory matters. Alex was previously a Partner, Managing Director, and General Counsel at Acasta Capital Inc., a boutique merchant bank and advisory firm where he led several M&A and corporate finance transactions. Prior to joining Acasta in 2014, Alex Singh was General Counsel & Secretary to West Face Capital, one of Canada’s most prominent alternative asset managers which grew to approximately $3B in assets under management during his tenure. Alex was a member of the senior executive for almost 5 years, and had been actively involved in West Face’s transactions, fund formation, compliance and regulatory matters, and operations. Alex was chosen by his peers as “Tomorrow’s Leader” at the Canadian General Counsel Awards in 2013.
Alex previously practiced corporate and securities law at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, has a J.D. from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, and a B.Comm. from McGill University. Alex is on the Board of The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, a member of the Global Experts Panel at McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management, and a member of Upper Canada College’s Association Council.
Alex resides in Toronto, and can been seen cycling or camping in Northern Ontario and skiing in British Columbia with his wife and two kids.
